Purpose

Whether you believe it or not, you were placed on this earth for a purpose. To clarify, you are God’s creation. Nothing about you is just ordinary. God made you complete and for a purpose. The best thing is that we were made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27 NKJV). Pause for a moment to think about that. We are living reflections of God in this earth. Wow! Not only were we made in His image, but also God gave us dominion over every living thing in the earth (Genesis 1:28 NKJV). Dominion means to rule and reign. It means to have control and authority over. That gets me excited to know that God not only created me like Him but He also gave me dominion over things in this world. Notice we are supposed to rule over things and not things ruling over us. Think on that for a moment.

From a young age, I knew God had a plan for my life (Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV). As my high school days were coming to a close, I realized more and more the importance of knowing what exactly God had planned for my future. I knew I wanted to pursue college. I just didn’t know what it was that I wanted to major in. I always had a love for the arts/drawing and I had a desire to own a business. I even thought about opening an art store one day. I started college with an undeclared major. By my second year of college, I declared a major in Business Administration and eventually picked up a second major- Human Resources. Still not exactly sure what I wanted to do and how my future would look career-wise, I pressed forward with completing and excelling in my undergraduate studies.

While in my senior year of college, I landed a great job. I would have missed that opportunity had I allowed timidity to take over, but with the encouragement of my parents I decided to apply for the job and just like that I received it. I believe that was a divine opportunity God had just for me. My supervisor was a young, black, intelligent woman that I looked up to because of her heart for God and people, her spirit of excellence, and her leadership skills. She was a great mentor and to this day a great friend. This job was exactly where I needed to be for that particular season of my young adult life and career. I worked there for 5 years.

I remember not too long after completing grad school, I had a desire for growth and change. I had reached my educational goals but now was wondering where do I go from here. My current job was going well but I started to max out the opportunities available to me at the time. I knew in more ways than one that it was time to move on. During this time, the big questions of what’s next and how to get there really began to weigh heavy on my heart. I will never forget how God used a church member to write a letter to me reminding me of how much God loved me. She had no idea what I was going through. It is amazing how God uses people to speak to us. Shortly after, I got a heart revelation of the love of God which changed my perspective and broke the chains of the spirit of heaviness that was weighing me down. Going forward, I confidently stood on the Word knowing that God was with me and would reveal and lead me to my new season. Sure enough, it was not long before God opened a new door for me that would take me not only higher in my career, but higher in my walk with Him.

I want to zero in for a moment on the love of God and the importance of heart knowledge. Many believers know that God loves them, but this knowledge often stays at the head level without ever syncing down to the heart. There is a difference between having a head knowledge and a heart knowledge, aka revelation. One of the meanings of revelation is to expose or disclose of. Once God gives you a revelation, there is no going back. What was in the dark has now come to the light. Revelation causes you to see clearly what God has had in store for you all along and how to possess it. To see clearly His love for you and how He always had you in mind. To see clearly His heart and how He wants the Best for you and is on your side. To see clearly how He is fighting for you and that the Battle is not Yours but His. To see clearly how He loves you so much that all He asks you to do is Only Believe! Revelation is powerful and lifechanging. God wants us to walk in a constant state of revelation. He has so many things that He wants to expose and reveal to us. Revelation allows for us to not only better understand God our Father, but also better understand who we are as well as our purpose. Revelation comes by spending time in His Presence and being at the right place at the right time with the right people doing the right things. Reflecting back, I realize that God was directing my paths and placing me right where I needed to be at every season. I can see how God has always been there and has always made a way of escape and propelled me into the next steps of my destiny. In each season of my life, God has always helped me to find my purpose, aka my assignment for that season.

You may be at a crossroad wondering where do I go from here. You may have done all you know to do in the natural. Now it is time to let go and trust God. God’s plan for your life has never changed no matter where you are in life (Malachi 3:6 AMP). He knows how to get you where you need to be as though you never got off track. His purpose for your life is bigger than any setback. When we are weak, He is strong (2 Corinthians 12:10 AMP). God shows up the strongest in our weaknesses. Where you end, is where He begins. As John the Baptist, who was instrumental in preparing the way for Jesus, said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30 NKJV). He was talking about Jesus increasing which meant that he must decrease. John the Baptist knew that he did his part and now it was time for Jesus to take over. Along the way, I realized that in order for God to show himself strong in my life, I had to surrender and get out of the way. Sometimes we are our own biggest hold-up and are quick to blame the devil or even God for things. We need to do a self-check and make sure we are not in the way. God is always faithful to do His part and is ready to place His “Super” on your natural. Know that you were bought with a price. The price was the blood of Jesus that was shed for you. God sent his Son Jesus to pay the ultimate price and to reconcile man back to God the Father. God has always had you in mind from the beginning way before you were formed in your mother’s belly. He has a purpose for your existence and desires to reveal it to you. Let Him show you. Seek Him and you will find your God-given purpose that only you can fulfill.
